You may have seen little glimmers of this beautiful place on Instagram. (At least, that’s where I found out about it!) The Palmwood is so beautifully described as a curated lodging experience on the island of Kauai.
Which is exactly what it was. . .
Our Stay:
Tucked Away in the mountains on the north east side of the island, this little gem was worth the hype.
We drove north from the airport, after stopping at Koloa Rum company, passing Kapa’a Town and found ourselves in the more jungly part of Kaua’i. We took a right turn off the main road and followed a sometimes-paved, sometimes-dirt road further into the lush, green east side of the island.
We turned into the wrong drive, but a friendly neighbor helped us find exactly where to go.
When we pulled into The Palmwood, to my surprise they kindly had written ‘Aloha Elana!’ on a sign out front. What a welcoming gesture! We made our way down to The East Room + took it all in.
Every detail had been carefully considered: the beautiful furniture on the lanai, the lovely floors, the leather + wood accents inside, the soft sheets, the organic bathroom toiletries, the lighting. Every detail had been given thought and I really admired that.
We relaxed, mixed a drink and then decided to walk the property and check it out. We followed a path down to the pool, realizing there was a little area with an outside grill (which is super convenient) as well as a fire pit for evening gatherings with the other guests. The pool was beautiful–again, all details thought about carefully.
We had egrets flying overhead and it just felt different. Serene. Quiet.
Like you were really immersed in the island of Kaua’i, not just nicking the surface.
This was the most relaxing part of our whole trip + I highly recommend it.
We got some great rest. Well, I did! Aaron kept waking up because of the chickens
(Disclosure: This is not just at The Palmwood!
There are chickens ALL over the island of Kaua’i + they looove to cock-a-doodle-do you awake! Just FYI.)
We woke up the next morning with the first light. The sky was illuminated vibrant pinks, oranges + yellows. The reflection off the pool was stunning.
BREAKFAST WAS AMAZING! Everything was made fresh that morning in their kitchen and was absolutely delicious + satisfying.
Here’s what was on the menu:
Fresh Coffee or Tea
Good For You Morning Salad (with greens from the garden)
Locally-Sourced Portuguese Sausage
Herb Mascarpone Eggs (holy YUM!)
Gluten-Free Banana Bread
I can’t tell you enough how much we loved the food. Happy bellies.
Over all experience:
We adored our little private suite so much, the pool was calming + beautiful, we enjoyed the hot tub and outdoor shower.
Not to mention the darling bikes available for use + the hammocks just outside of our room!
I would 100% recommend this gem tucked in the mountains of the east side of Kauai.
Staying at a bed + breakfast is more rare nowadays in America but I highly recommend it. Our host, Eddi, was incredible and welcoming. She explained that The Palmwood is just an extension of how she has lived her whole life – always creating something in the kitchen + welcoming people into her home. We were able to chat with her, meet the other guests, swap travel stories and just connect. Often times we think of vacation as a time to get away from people, but I find it refreshing to actually connect with like-minded individuals and expand your mind. It was such a positive part of our stay in Kauai.
WOAH!! Can I please stay there one day – GORGEOUS! Looks like you guys had so much fun!
so beautiful. For me what I look for in a vacation all depends on where I’m going. I think a trip to the palmwood I would definitely look forward to relaxing : )
